Cinco De Mayo Vibes - NEW Taco Recipe!

RecipeGet Your Vibes

NEW taco recipe, just in time for Cinco De Mayo!  The flavor is festive and super healthy. 

 Ingredients:

½ Head of purple cabbage

1 Red pepper

1 Mango

½ Sweet onion or purple onion

¼ Cup of cilantro

3-4 Portobello mushrooms

3 Limes

3-4 Tablespoons of honey

Get Your Vibes garlic cashew dip

Tortillas of your choice

Hoisin sauce

Olive Oil

Garlic powder

Pepper

Cumin

Salt

Start by shredding the purple, chopping the red pepper, onion, cilantro and mango.  Toss it in a large bowl.  Squeeze the juice from the limes (same a half of one for garnish or extra juice on top of the taco) in the bowl, add in the honey, about 1 teaspoon of cumin or more, ½ teaspoon or more of garlic powder and salt and pepper to your liking. Mix it really well, add in more lime, honey, or spices if you needed.

Thinly slice the portobello mushrooms, add them to a pan with a little olive oil.  Add in 3-4 tablespoons of hoisin sauce and sauté.  Add in some garlic powder, salt and pepper, combine on the stovetop until the mushrooms have absorbed the sauce and spices.  Once the mushrooms are done set them aside.  Warm your tortillas and add the GYV garlic cashew dip as a base, place the cabbage mixture on top, then add the mushrooms and feel free to garnish with more cilantro and fresh lime. 

It’s easy, healthy and really delicious!  Enjoy!

Vibe of The Week: Make Your Morning Work for You!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and is ready for an even better week!  Morning is such a precious time of day, everything is crisp, fresh and open for possibility.  It's an important time to prepare for a successful day as well.  Having a morning routine will not only help your focus but it will allow you to face the day with calmness and an inner peace.  We don’t want to be frazzled in the morning because that sets us up for a frazzled day, we want to be focused and mentally ready to accomplish and adapt to whatever the day brings.  We can’t prepare for what is going to happen, we can only prepare ourselves.  So what is your morning routine like?

A few things that I find to be really helpful in the morning are having a set of non-negotiables, you do this every morning no matter where you are.

1) Wake up with an attitude of gratitude.  When you place your feet on the ground, say, think and feel what you are grateful for, it can be anything!  We always have room for more gratitude in our life and starting the day being grateful sets a positive tone.

2) Hydrate!  No exceptions.  All Get Your Vibes clients drink at least 24-32 ounces of room temperature to warm water with lemon every morning.  After sleeping it is especially important to start the day with water, nothing else before the water should go in your body.  If you're on the road make sure you have water with you and a lemon if you'd like, I travel with both and I always feel like it helps me stay on track with I travel with my water and lemon.

3) Have some quiet time.  Whether it’s to journal, meditate or make a to-do list, setting aside 20-30 minutes to gather your thoughts, quiet the mind and mentally check in with yourself is extremely important.  This will help you think more clearly, see things as the really are and help you react or not react to things.  A chaotic mind is a mind that makes mistakes, quiet the mind so that you can think clearly and be creative.

4) Do not check emails or social media right away, wait!  Many of us sleep with our phones close to our bed because of the convenience of an alarm clock, so we are tempted to lay in bed and check emails, IG, FB, and maybe like a tweet or two all before we even get out of bed?!  Nope, that’s no way to start the day.  You want to feel refreshed and have a clear mind before attending to any emails.

Jade Rolling Vibes

At Get Your Vibes, we are all about creating and building sustainable habits.  Whether it's dry brushing or drinking warm water with lemon every morning, we believe that the little things you do every day add up in a big way.   

Jade rolling is another beneficial habit that we love at Get Your Vibes.  A lot of people aren't familiar with it so we are here to enlighten you!  Jade rolling, is a form of facial massage, you take the beautiful jade stone roller and roll in an upwards motion on your face and neck area.  What this does is, increase blood circulation, assist lymphatic drainage,  evens out complexion and diminish the appearance of fine lines.  All of those benefits detox the skin, improves skin elasticity and (speaking from personal experience) it de-puffs the eye area, really well.  Jade, is a stone that naturally stays cold so when this is used on the skin in the morning it feels exceptionally good. 

We don't often realize how tense the muscles in our face are so this is an especially important to release tension in our face and improve our appearance.  So, how do we use this divine tool?  You can start by making sure the skin on your face and neck is free of any makeup, sunscreen and any product.  Using the large end of the roller start at the bottom of your neck and roll upwards,  Continue rolling, applying gentle pressure, going upwards along the jawline, cheeks, cheekbones and forehead.  Then using the smaller end start at the inner part of the eye are and roll outwards,  you are rolling away the puffiness in the under eye area!  Once I am done I like to rinse my face with cool water and then apply my eye cream, serum and moisturizer.  I do this every morning but 3-4 days a week is encouraged.  Another way to do this is to put on a face mask and then use the roller over the mask to really help the mask penetrate the skin.

Tahini Veggie Stir Fry Pasta

Do you ever have those moments when you throw something together and hope for the best?  This dish IS that.  It was a Friday night, I had just hit some golf balls at the range and I was craving something hearty and filling, but also quick and easy.  The combo of filling and quick, often doesn't go hand in hand but this is an exception.  Let's get to it so you can Get Your Vibes.

Serves 1-2

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of Tinkyada spiral pasta (or your favorite gluten free pasta)
  • 1/2 cup of chopped purple cabbage
  • 1/2 cup of julienned carrots
  • 1/2 cup of spinach
  • 1/4 cup of sliced red onion
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1/4 cup of tahini
  • 2-3 tablespoons of liquid aminos
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons of garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
  • S&P to taste

Start by chopping all your vegetables with the exception of the spinach, set them aside and boil the pasta.  Be sure to stir the pasta often, as gluten free pasta can get sticky.  Saute the veggies in the coconut oil until tender.  Once the pasta is done and the veggies are tender, strain the pasta and turn off the heat.  Add the pasta and spinach to the pan with the veggies, then gently combine the tahini, liquid aminos, garlic powder, S&P. and lemon juice.  Continue to gently fold and combine until everything is coated, then transfer to a bowl.  Top with cilantro, avocado and hemp seeds, put your feet up, Get Your Vibes and enjoy!

Block Out Bad Vibes

Protecting our health and good vibes is a top priority.  Achieving optimal health consists of many things in addition to eating a proper diet, getting enough sleep and exercise.  There are simple and effective ways to protect and amplify our health.  We are exposed to thousands of toxins every day, not just in our food but environmental toxins, toxins in our skin care and cleaning supplies, and toxins from our TV Screens, computers, iPads and cell phones!  Is nothing pure anymore?!  It's becoming increasingly difficult to know what is or isn't healthy and how we can protect ourselves. 

Something that I've been introduced to over the last year are yellow lens glasses and how they greatly benefit us.  We don't always realize the harms and toxins that come with technology, our TV, computer, tablet or cell phone screens can disrupt our health and impact our body's internal clock, which leads to interruption of proper hormone production and secretion, issues with sleeping and macular degeneration, just to name a few.  Our screens emit light waves that our eyes and brain process. Blue light waves are especially difficult for us to process because it is a shorter wavelength, it scatters easier than other colors and it makes it very difficult for us to focus, therefore resulting in harmful eye strain, and often times we don't even realize how strained our eyes really are.  Blue light is also very harmful to our body's circadian rhythm, which is our internal, a 24 hour cycle in the physiological processes of all living beings, plants, animals, insects, all living beings.  This internal clock regulates how our body feels, when we rise and when we get tired, the blue light manipulates this natural internal process and we struggle to maintain healthy energy.

Recent studies show that blue light impacts the following; sleep problems, bipolar disorder and macular degeneration.  There is also ongoing research linking the harmful rays to, diabetes, obesity, immune system function, and an increased risk of cancer but more studies need to be conducted to fully tell blue light's impact. 

Fortunately, there are ways we can protect ourselves, simply purchasing yellow or copper lens glasses online (amazon has them and they aren't very expensive) is a great way to prevent the blue light damage when looking at any sort of screen, not looking at screens in dark surroundings is also helpful, try to have a cut off time from electronics at least 1-2 hours before bed.  All of these methods are easy, simple and effective.  Some of the things you want to look for when purchasing glasses are "Anti Blue Light Filter [Sleep Better], UV Block Radiation Eyestrain Reading Safety Glasses Square Computer Eyewear Yellow 49mm Lens".  It's important that they are anti blue light glasses.  We are not paid by this company in any way, so this is just a suggestion but the Cyxus Blue Light Filter glasses are great, durable, and get the job done.
